Bizman Charges Opobo People On Peace
People of Opobo Kingdom living in Evo kingdom of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, have been
charged to remain peaceful and contribute their quota to the socio-economic
development of their host community.
A
business executive in Port Harcourt and Prince of Opobo Kingdom, Prince Alabo
Charles Douglas Mc Pepple-Jaja, gave the charge in Woji ,Saturday at the 2012
End-of-year Party/Opobo Day of Opobo Community Welfare Association (OCINA).
Represented
by Jeki Opu-Senibo Edwin .S. Pepple, Alabo Mc Pepple-Jaja commended the
industry of members of the association, adding that 80 per cent of whom he
noted, were landlords in their host community.
He
noted that most of the members, having acquired
citizenship rights should train their children well in other for them to
show the respect, discipline and hardwork for which Opobians are noted, among their Evo Kingdom peers.
The
Opobo Prince also reminded members of OCWA of the need to support the Opobo
International Boat (OIB) regatta by all means during the on-coming Christmas
and New Year festivals in Opobo Kingdom.
Also
speaking at the Opobo Day at which the OCWA Bus Project was launched, a former
Accountant-General of Rivers State, Mr Adagogo G. Jaja commended the people of
Evo Kingdom for being hospitably hosted the OCWA members.
While
giving support to the bus project launch, Jaja who holds the titles of Ama
Opusenibo and Arusibidaso III of Opobo Kingdom charged the members to remain
peaceful and industrious in their host community. Represented by Senibo Enyinna
I.Jaja, the Arusibidabo III of Opobo Kingdom who was chief launcher, launched
with a pledge of 250,000.
Earlier,
the caretaker committee chairman Mr Godson Cookey had noted that since 2004
when OCWA was founded, its objective had been to provide support to members,
promote mutual co-existence with its host community and socio-cultural
interaction among members.
Cookey
stated that OCWA remained the only ethnic group in Evo Kingdom to have been
lauded and assured of co-operation by the Evo Kingdom monarch, Eze Frank Eke,
when OCWA paid him a courtesy visit.
He
paid glowing tribute to the founding fathers of OCWA, including Senibo
Assosiniah Fubara, Senibo Harold Nengia and Hon Samuel Alali Jaja.
In
his speech, Jeki Opusenibo Boma G Jaja said Opobo Day was initiated to bring
Opobo people in Woji together and assured that the event will be observed
annually.
About
N500,000 was realised as pledges at the ceremony.
