ASUU Seeks Accreditation Of Courses
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has sought for the approval and accreditation of courses by the National Universities Commission at the University of Abuja.
A statement signed by ASUU National President, Dr. Nasir Fagge said the accreditation of courses would promote the nation’s educational development and human capital development.
The union’s president said that ASUU believes that the accreditation of courses will address the problems the university is facing, especially with regards to non-accreditation of courses.
Dr. Fagge also called on the Federal Government to implement the white paper on the recent visitation panel to the University of Abuja.
President of the union said the implementation of the white paper would address the issues facing the institution.
He said the union called on the Federal Government to make the white paper available on the recent visitation panel to the university, stressing that once the report made available, implementing the recommendations that are accepted by the white paper will move the university to a greater height.
The ASUU president said there was need to address the issue as the students were getting frustrated stressing that ASUU was fashioning out ways of addressing the problems facing the University of Abuja.
Dr. Fagge said previous attempts to address the problems of the university were mere cosmetic, stressing that the union thought on how to find out the problems bedeviling the university of Abuja, so as to holistically address such problems and put it on a solid foundation as a tertiary institution of reputation.
However, the federal government had on August 3, 2012 inaugurated a 37 – man special visitation panel to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the university.
