‘Peace Pageant To Promote Regional Integration’

The Rivers State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Nabbs Imegwu, says the ECOWAS Peace Pageant organised by the Rivers State Government in conjunction with 702 Productions, will promote regional integration and economic development.

The Commissioner who stated this during a press conference at Hotel Presidential, at the weekend, to kick start this year’s edition of the event said,” the platform will encourage economic development and Social Interaction in the West African sub region.”

Imegwu pointed out that the ECOWAS Peace Pageant was envisioned by the Rivers State Government to serve as a brand for the stimulation of a robust social and political economy in  Africa.

He added that the concept was based on the ideology of promoting regional Peace integration, and emphasised that this year’s edition was special as it would complement the centenary of Carniriv of Port Harcourt.

According to the commissioner, the theme of this year’s edition: “The Role of Women in Peace Building” is apt as “it will provide opportunities for the Youthful Peace Ambassadors to use their diverse potentials and social background to promote peace and issues of gender balance in the African subregion.”

The Commissioner noted that Port Harcourt was established as a hub for voyagers, but the city was yet to rise up to that crest

He assured of the commitment of the present administration towards placing Port Harcourt on the world tourism map, by exploring the diverse tourism potentials in the state.

In her remark, the Associate Director, 702 productions,Florence Menson thanked the Rivers State Government for initiating the ECOWAS Peace Pageant.

She assured the parlmership of 702 Productions with the Rivers State Government in providing the platform for young ladies from the West African sub region to become great women in the future.

Over 30 Peace Ambassadors from various ECOWAS countries are already in Port Harcourt for the event.
