Union Wants COEs To Implement Retirement Age

The Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals Research Institutes and Associated Institutions has called on Provosts of Colleges of Education in the country to immediately implement the 65 years retirement age approved by the government for the respective institution staff.

The call was contained in a communiqué issued by the Leadership of the Union after two-day meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The document was signed by the Union Chairman, and Secretary respectively, Comrade Suleiman Sami and Comrade Abubakar Niworu.

The communiqué stated that some provosts had not implemented the directive on retirement age given by the National Board for technical Education and thereby caused confusion in the Colleges.

The Union said the issue on the skipping of cadre was pending in court and as such the provosts should maintain the exsiting order on the matter.

The communiqué urged the relevant authorites to expedite action on the ratification of the conditions and schemes of service for workers of research institutes, allied institutions and Colleges of agriculture.

The Union expressed sympathy with those affected by the recent flood in some part of the country and commended corporate organizations, individuals and government officials at all levels who rendered assistance to the Victims.

The Union’s Leaders urged the Federal Government to ensure that relief materials provided for victims reached such victims further advising that government should embark on measures to avoid a recurrence of such floods in the country in future.
