RSIEC Plans Polls In Six LGAs
The Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Prof. Augustine Ahiauzu, has revealed that the commission will soon hold elections in six local government areas in the State.
The RSIEC boss stated this recently when the newly inaugurated board of the commission paid a scheduled visit to Wazobia/Cool fm, Radio Stations and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Port Harcourt.
Prof. Ahiauzu said that the elections in the various wards was as a result of court orders urging the Commission to conduct election in the affected wards and the death of a Councilor representing ward 5 in Asari-toru LGA.
The RSIEC chairman solicited for the partnership of the radio stations and their television counterparts in sensitising, educating and mobilising the electorate on the elections to be held in six wards, in five LGAs and the entire Onelga.
Responding to the chairman’s speech, the Head of Station, Wazobia/Cool Fm, Mr. Aduratomi Bolade and the zonal manager NTA, Mr. Adeogun Ajala, represented by Director Finance Mr. Ukwu O. Ukwu pledged their unflinching support to sensitize the public on the activities of RSIEC.
They promised to use their stations to fight election apathy by properly sensitising and mobilising the masses on the gains of voting in leaders of their choice and urged the commission to regularly participate in their programmes so as to create awareness to the public.
The Wazobia/Cool Fm manager informed the commission that since they speak the language the masses understand they will take the responsibility of sensitising the people of the grassroot and commended the commission for recognising the radio station.
