The Rivers State Government, has reiterated its intention to commence arrest of contractors handling government project who absconded from project site after collecting contract fund from the state government.

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi dropped the hint, Tuesday, while giving his account of stewardship, during Town Hall meeting held at Okehi, the Headquarters of Etche Local Government Area.

Governor Amaechi expressed disappointment that even when substantial percentage of contract cost had been released by the State Government to contractors, some of them abandoned site.

He said most of the contractors handling model primary schools in Etche had been paid but they abandoned work at various stages, stressing that a good number of the contractors were big men from Etche.

According to the governor, over N7.2 billion had been spent so far in schools in Etche local government area.

Apart from the contractors handling model primary school projects, the governor also expressed sadness at some health workers, particularly doctors, who absent themselves from work at the various health centres and threatened to sack such absentee personnel.

The people had complained that health workers posted to the health centres in the area hardly show up and that such attitude was discouraging people from making use of the facilities.

However, the governor remarked that most of the health centres built for the people were not receiving sufficient patronage, stressing that the centres were built for the people and enjoined them, especially pregnant women to take full advantage of the facilities in the state.

On the poor state of Igbo Road, the governor said the government was aware of the present state of the road and promised that would be rehabilitated before the end of his administration.
