Oba Harps On Resources Utilisation
The Oba of Ogbaland, His Eminence, Sir Chukumela Nnam Obi II, says Nigeria has enough resources which could be tapped to sustain the present and future generations.
In a keynote address at the unveiling of Youth Empowerment and Peace Centre and awards presentation organised by Josdan Global Peace Foundation Network at the weekend, the monarch said the country will have nothing to regret if its resources were frugally managed.
Said he: “There are enough to sustain our generation. We must look inwards, we don’t have cause to complain much but to build up and consolidate on our resources. God has given us all things in abundance”.
The Oba, a two-time chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers called on Federal and State governments as well as all Nigerians to channel their ideas toward developing the youth for the betterment of the country.
According to him, the initiative by Josdan Global Peace Foundation Network is in line with government policies as it is aimed at finding solution to the problems confronting Nigerian youths and urged other non-governmental organisations to focus on issues relevant to the society.
Also speaking, chairman of the occasion, Chief Needam Bekee, the Mini Kiisi 1 of Babbe Kingdom represented by Kiebari Keppa urged government to avoid waste of funds.
He said our resources should be channelled to the development of our youths. ‘If our youths are not well taken care of, the country is threatened. We must build the men who will build the nation”. Chief Bekee reassured of his determination to partner with Josdan Global Peace Foundation Network in ensuring the success of the initiative.
In a paper titled, “The Imperative of Paradigm Shift in Youth Development Strategy in Nigeria”, a lecturer at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Dr Henry Denye pointed out that the youth which represent 40 per cent of the Nigerian populace have not been productive, a situation he said, was ‘a shame to the country”.
