The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and its counterpart, the Senior Staff Association of electricity and allied companies (SSAEAC), have shunned the probe panel set up by the former Minister of Power Prof Barth Nnaji.

The probe panel was set up to investigate the management of funds in the Power, Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) Pension Scheme.

The two unions NUEE and SSAEAC are both platforms for senior and junior cadre of employees of PHCN Plc.

The National Secretary of NUEE, Comrade Joseph Ajaero said NUEE boycotted the probe panel sittings due to loss of confidence in the panel.

He said the probe panel cannot achieve any tangible outcome than protecting the management of the PHCN.

The Federal government had set up the panel headed by the former Auditor General of the federation, Mr. Joseph Ajiboye to investigate the contributory Pension Funds Scam in PHCN Plc.

The 45 page report of the probe panel allegedly indicted PHCN officials of recklessness in the management of its controversial in-house pension scheme.

The probe panel report also indicted the two unions for their reluctance to defend themselves of the allegations of financial corruption levelled against the unions by the government.
