The Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government council Hon. Raymond Wokocha, has lamented the increasing spate of kidnap and other criminal activities in the area.
Hon. Wokocha stated this in Omoku recently after the release of the Power Commissioner, the wife of the council Secretary, federal college of education (Technical) Omoku, Chief Librarian and Dr. Richard Ihua-Maduenyi that died in the hands of his abductors.
The Chairman who also narrowly escaped being kidnapped, urged those involved in the dastardly act to stop their criminal acts before the long hands of the land would catch up with them.
He said the activities of the miscreants are denting the image of the area and driving away investors from the local government area and enjoined residents of the area to report persons with suspicious characters in their neighbourhood to security operatives for prompt action.
Hon. Wokocha, advised youths from the area to channel their energies to the development of their talents, to achieve self reliance rather than indulge in criminality.
Narrating the ordeal of his wife’s abduction, the ONELGA Council Secretary Hon. Clever Orukwowu, said the kidnappers actually came for him as they demanded from his wife, his whereabout and later took her away under gun point.
Hon. Orukwuowu, a former Ward six Councillor, however, thanked the efforts of the Security agents in the area for their intervention which resulted in the eventual release of his wife who is presently receiving treatment in hospital.
Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chairman in the area deacon Felix Ejechi has also condemned the increasing heinous crime in the area and called on security operatives to put more effort to protect lives and property of citizens of the area.
It would be recalled that the people of ONELGA, ravaged by flood are equally living in fear of being kidnapped as hardly no week passes without report of a cases of abduction.
Just four days ago, the lecturers of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku, told newsmen that seven of their members were kidnapped within 10 months of this year, while one of the victims late Dr. Richard Ihua-Maduenyi died in the custody of the kidnappers.
