Leader Tasks Council Chairmen On Culture
Local government council chairmen in Rivers State, have been called upon to encourage culture-oriented programmes to formulate suitable policies that would aid development at the grassroots.
The Leader, Andoni Legislative Assembly, Hon. Ataisi Charity Wellington made the call last Saturday at 2012 conference /official opening of Ataba community’s historical and cultural musuem held at Ataba town, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to her, culture is the competent social mechanism that can check the society from menace and youths restiveness as well provide a good road map for generation to come.
“Governments, especially, the local government authorities in Rivers State need to encourage culture oriented programmes to form policies that will bring development at the local levels.
“We need to note that our cultural background tells a lot about us, the behavior of a person can tell others, where the person comes from, good culture produces good people, good family and good society. Hon. Wellington explained.
The legislative leader also tasked women, especially the mothers to see the challenges of bringing up good family as their primary responsibility to ensure a better society.
She attributed the rampant indecent dressing and conducts of most girls and boys in the society to inability of mothers to perform their duties at home.
Hon. Wellington commended the women of Ataba Community for their focus and commitment to set a pace by building and equipping a cultural Musuem for tourism where unborn children to come would identify some archeological materials of their culture.
Earlier, the President of Ataba Women Association (AWA) Mrs Enyekit Kakpoilo Lovinah said the 2012 conference/opening of Ataba Historical and Cultural Museum was not only to serve as an academic exercise, but to bring to life the realities of the community’s peculiar history.
Mrs. Enyekit who noted that girl child holds the key to the world’s future as mother of tomorrow, also tasked mothers to take the training of their daughters very serious.
