Lawmaker Harps On Nigeria’s Greatness
The member representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dakuku Peterside, has called on Nigerians to see themselves as potential stakeholders in making Nigeria what it should be as no one else can do it for them.
Hon. Peterside who made the call at the Town Hall meeting on the constitution review at Opobo said that literally, the Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency contributes more oil than other oil-bearing constituencies in the country.
He said that the public session on the review of the 1999 Constitution does not only create an avenue for House of Representatives to feel the pulse of the people but also offered an opportunity for the people to make their inputs in fashioning out an acceptable Constitution that would stand the test of time.
The House of Representatives member noted that it was only the views of the constituents that would be taken to the House for consideration.
In a goodwill message, the Senator representing Rivers South East, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe said the current initiative of the constitutional reform was the most comprehensive effort by the legislature to ensure that the true values, desires and aspirations of the people were reflected in the constitution.
Abe enjoined the people to air their views in the manner that will be acceptable to the legislature.
In his remarks, Justice S.O. Iragunima who was chairman of the session said the constitution review was a crucial matter and an opportunity for people to contribute towards the betterment of the country and the welfare of Nigerians.
