Lab Science Boss Joins Global Governance Board
The Registrar, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Prof. Anthony Emeribe, has been appointed into the Governance Board of the Strengthening Laboratory Management Towards Accreditation (SLMTA) programme.
In a statement issued in Abuja, on Saturday. The board provides vision and strategy for SLMTA programmes in terms of spread and sustainability.
By the appointment, Emeribe, a renowned consultant haematologist, joins other eminent scientists from various countries across the world to expand SLMTA’s impact and ensure its sustainability. “The board also oversees and supports implementation of the programme’s global and regional strategy,” it says.
Emeribe is expected to draw from his wealth of experience to mentor, empower and standardise medical laboratory facilities and personnel in the African region, as he Emeribe is to join other board members in making recommendations on long-term and short-term priorities and policy issues for the benefit of the region.
It adds that campaigns and media outreach to showcase the programme’s success and advocate for medical laboratory needs will be emphasised.
The statement quotes Emeribe as saying that the recognition is a call to contribute towards the goal of improved laboratory systems, in line with global standards.
“We are now living in a global village, our laboratory systems, which are integral part of the health sector, cannot be left behind while their counterparts in other countries continue to raise the quality bar.
“Clearly, this appointment indicates that, despite whatever contribution one has made in the past, much more is expected,” he said.
