Ihedioha Pledges More Federal Roads For Imo
The Deputy Speaker, House of epresentatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, has pledged to use his good office to attract more federal presence to Imo, especially in road construction.
Ihedioha made the pledge at Ihitte-Uboma on Saturday at the inauguration of the Isinweke/Onicha Uboma Road construction by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
He said that he took up the issue of that particular road with the NDDC “following the perpetual suffering which the road users were subjected to in the past’’.
Ihedioha said it was difficult for farmers in Onicha/Uboma to transport their farm produce to major markets due to the bad nature of the road.
He added that the road, when completed, would help in the circulation of agricultural products and assist in reducing the cost of transportation in the area.
“My aim is to use my good office to attract dividends of democracy to the entire state,’’ he said.
The lawmaker said that the project would also help to reduce unemployment among youths of the host communities and urged the communities to cooperate with the contractors for speedy execution.
The 16.7km road, with four bridges, would gulp N5.2 billion.
The NDDC Managing Director, Dr Christian Oboh, said that the commission was committed toward executing its mandate in the Niger Delta region.
