No fewer than 35 graduates of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt made first class in the 2005/2006 to 2009/2010 convocation billed for next Saturday, 10th November, 2012 at the main campus of the institution, Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Rosemund Dienye Osahogulu, who disclosed this, Wednesday, in an exclusive pre-convocation chat with The Tide in her office said 706 got second class upper while 5,796 obtained second class lower grade.

Prof Osahogulu stated that out of a total of 12,114 graduands slated for the convocation,4,169 and 1,408 graduands got 3rd class and pass grades, respectively.

Prizes, she said, would be given to deserving graduands to appreciate their excellent performance during the event.

The Tide gathered that the 2010/2011 set whose results,  have been concluded by the institution, were excluded from taking part in the convocation ceremony because the University of Ibadan has not given approval to their graduation.

She also noted that the university would not confer any hononrary doctorate degree on any person as authority to convoke still rests with University of Ibadan where IAUOE is affiliated, stressing that when the university commenced its independent convocation such awards would be conferred on deserving personalities as it is normally done in other universities all over the world.

The VC attributed the success of the institution so far to strong support from the Rivers State Government, as according to her, the Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi had been dependable in his moral and financial support.

She also commended management and staff of the university for their co-operation, without which, she said, the success so far recorded would not have been possible.

Meanwhile, a release signed by the Registrar of the institution, Barrister Ikem Adiele said convocation church service will hold this Sunday at Chapel of Transfiguration, Rumuolumeni while the convocation lecture would hold on November 7 at the University Auditorium.

The lecture would be delivered by Prof Isaac Oluwale Albert of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan”, the statement added.
