Flood: Ikuru Hails Firm’s Gesture

Chairman, Rivers State Flood Relief Committee and Deputy Governor, Engr Tele Ikuru, has lauded the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation/Chevron Joint Venture for donating  relief materials to  victims of  flood disaster in the four local government areas of the State.

Engr Ikuru made the commendation yesterday while receiving the relief materials from the management  from the management in Government House, Port Harcourt.

The Deputy Governor expressed appreciation over the donations, describing it as a wonderful gesture geared towards ameliorating the plight of the flood victims, assuring that “everything you have brought here, will certainly get to its destination, and be rest assured the affected victims will receive these materials.

He however outlined the tremendous effort of the state Government in addressing the challenges faced by the flood victims through provisions of relief materials and camps to cater for the welfare of the people, calling on other corporate organisations to take clue from the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture, in alleviating the challenges faced by the victims of the flood disaster.

Earlier, the Co-ordinator General Memoranda of Understanding (GMoU) Eastern Operation, NNPC/Cheron Joint Venture, Mr Tom Akagboso said the donation of the relief materials to the flood victims is part of “their tradition of care and community development projects”, adding that the relief materials, which include rice, garri, yam, beans and others are a contribution by the Company to support the efforts of the state government in providing succour to the flood victims.

Akagboso also disclosed that the company had earlier given a cash donation of fifteen million naira (N15,000.000.00) to the management of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist the Agency address some of the challenges faced by the people, expressing willingness of the company to partner with the State Government in areas of community development.
