The Federal Government has sent a technical team to Bayelsa State to assess the impact of the recent floods on key infrastructure in the state.

The team is led by Mr. Wilson Samson of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), with membership drawn from National Emergency Management Agency, the World Bank, among others.

The Secretary to Bayelsa State Government (SSG), Prof. Edmund Allison-Oguru, who received the team on Sunday in Yengoa, commended the Federal Government for identifying with the state since the flood disaster.

He said that various ministerial committees had been set up by the state government to assess the impact of the flood generally.

“As a state, we have started measures for the post flood era to assist the communities and victims. We are focusing on agriculture to help farmers with seeds.

“We also have the health component committee to take care of emerging diseases that may result from the flood problem.

“We also have the infrastructure component,’’ Allison-Oguru said.

Earlier, the leader of the validation team, Samson, said the visit would reveal the impact of the flood in the state.

He said that the result would be followed with appropriate recommendations to reduce such impact in case of future occurrence.
