Ex-Oyo Gov Buried, As Jonathan, Others Mourn
Former governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, who died yesterday, has been buried according to Islamic rites. He was interred at exactly 4.26p.m. at his Felele home, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who announced the death in Ibadan yesterday, said Adesina, was until his death, the National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Lam, aged 73 was an Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) stalwart in Oyo State before he died.
Between 1999 and 2003, Lam served as Oyo State governor under the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed sadness over the death of elder statesman and former governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lam Adesina.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, in Abuja yesterday, read, “on behalf of himself, the Federal Government and all Nigerians, President Jonathan extends heartfelt condolences to Adesina’s family and the Government and people of Oyo State.
The president joined late Adesina’s family, relatives, friends, associates and all who knew him in mourning the renowned educationist and political leader.
Jonathan noted that the former governor devoted his entire adult life to working for the progress of his people and the nation.
He believed that Adesina’s indefatigability in political struggles as well as his honesty, integrity, sincere commitment and dedication to the service of his people before and during his tenure endeared him to all.
According to him, Adesina will be honoured and remembered by present and future generations as an exemplary leader who did his utmost best to improve the lives of his people.
The president prayed that God Almighty would receive Adesina’s soul and grant him eternal rest.
The governor of Oyo State, Senator Isiaq Ajimobi, national Chairman, ACN, Chief Bisi Akande and national leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu, were among dignitaries who paid final respects to the late ACN leader.
