The Nigerian Roller Sports Association has formally protested to the National Sports Commission (NSC) over its exclusion as a demonstration sports at the forthcoming 18th National Sports Festival in Lagos.

Chairman of the association, David Onyekachukwe, disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos.

The festival tagged, “Eko 2012’ would hold from November 27 to December 9.

Onyekachukwe sid that the development has been a major setback in popularizing the sport in the country.

“The sport is unique and well known in the world. I see no reason why the NSC should deny us access to demonstrate at the forthcoming festival.

“Our first demonstration was at the Lagos State Sports Council two years ago and the demonstration was superb. A lot of development to the sport has happened since then,” he said.

The association chairman, however, added that the body would not relent in its efforts to further promote and popularize the sport.

Onyekachukwe disclosed that the association has concluded plans to organise its first national speed-skating championships from November 22 to November 25 at the National Stadium in Lagos.

According to him, the championship will be a major event of the association because all the state associations will participate in the competition.
