The Ebonyi Government on Tuesday said it would flush out lazy and unproductive teachers from its schools.

The Permanent Secretary in the state ministry of Education, Mr William Alo, said in Abakaliki that government would no longer tolerate lazy and unproductive teachers.

He said the State Government was committed to strengthening the education system, adding that standard of education would not be compromised.

Alo said the government would not harbour teachers that indulge in unwholesome practises or abandon their duty posts for private businesses, noting that the State Government was collaborating with stakeholders in the education sector to ensure effective school supervision and monitoring.

“Education is everybody’s business. Therefore, government is partnering with groups and individuals to ensure effective supervision of our schools.Government alone cannot achieve 100 per cent supervision and monitoring of schools in the state,’’ he said.

He said the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), faith-based organisations, religious groups, among others, were collaborating with the government to ensure effective supervision of schools.

According to him, the only way to compliment the efforts of the governor is to ensure that teachers do not renege in discharging their duties.

“A lot of resources have been put in the sector and we owe the state a duty of effective service
