Ebonyi Recruits 500 Teachers
The Ebonyi State Gov-ernment says It has approved the recruitment of 500 teachers for government-owned secondary schools.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr William Alo told newsmen that the approval was based on the need to employ teachers with relevant skills in Information Communication Technology (ICT), and entrepreneurial subjects newly introduced into the school curricula.
He said that government was determined to promote the teaching and learning of ICT and entrepreneurial subjects in its schools.
He noted that government had earlier embarked on retraining of existing staff to cope with the techniques involved in handling the new subjects.
According to him, functional and qualitative education is required to drive government’s transformation agenda, pointing out that the state government was doing everything possible to key into the new order.
“The world economy is now driven by ICT and entrepreneurial skills. We need to reposition our educational system in order to meet the economic and technological challenges ahead.
“Therefore, we are employing teachers who are knowledgeable in these fields to spearhead the revolution,’’ Alo said.
He said that the state would only recruit teachers who had acquired skills in ICT and basic understanding of vocational skills.
“We will not play politics with the selection exercise as only the best qualified candidates will be chosen; the recruitment exercise will follow all due process,’’ he said.
The state government had purchased books and other relevant educational materials necessary for smooth and effective implementation of the new curricula.
“To demonstrate government readiness for effective implementation of the new curricula, it has purchased relevant materials and equipped some of the schools with ICT components,” Alo added.
