Dolphins Camp Undergoes Renovation
Massive renovation work has started at the camp of Dolphins football club ahead of the new football season.
The work going on at the camp is total and is akin to rebuilding the camp of the club located at the Elekahia Estate in Port Harcourt.
According to Sports Commissioner, Fred Igwe, the camp is dilapidated and is in deplorable state and it was time to release funds for the jobs.
“It is something we had to do because I even visited the camp of the team too and was not impressed with what I saw.
“The players need to see us as being serious about their welfare and as they return from the break it will be a morale booster for them to see their camp looking much better than they left it when the League ended last term,” Igwe said.
“Dolphins is one club that the ministry supports, just like Sharks too, so I’m glad we are putting things right and I am glad we will finish soon.”
The renovation work includes deroofing/ reroofing, replacing the plumbing system, replacing beds, windows and mosquito nets, repainting as well as a new power generator to serve the camp.
Meanwhile, Dolphins will embark on pre-season camping outside Rivers State as soon as possible as the team continues their preparations for the new football season.
General Manager of the club, Dumbo Awanen said that the exercise is part of programme submitted to the management of the club by the Technical Adviser of the club, Stanley Eguma.
“They will be training here for a week and after that they move to closed camping for better concentration and we believe by the time they return their camp will look like a brand new house for them.
“The idea of the closed camping is to get the boys outside the noise of Port Harcourt where they can stay focused on the strategies and training techniques the coach would want to impart,” Awanen said.
Technical Adviser of the club, Stanley Eguma admits the club may be starting a bit late because of reforms that took place but said they have drawn up a schedule that will help the players peak on time.
“We didn’t do so well in the last football season and we won’t want that to repeat itself this time.
“We need to play ourselves back to reckoning and return to the continent so this closed camping and renovation work on the camp has actually come in handy for us.”
