DCP Charges Police Mess Committee On Crime Rate
The Rivers State Police Command, has charged members and officials of the Rivers State Police Officers’ Mess Committee to partner with law enforcement operatives to collectively police the society and reduce crime rate.
Speaking through the state Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), Mr. T.O. Etomi during the swearing-in ceremony of the Police officers’ Mess Committee, Mr. Etomi said security of lives and properties was a collective responsibility of the citizenry.
DCP Etomi who doubles as the President of Mess Committee (PMC) of the state Police Command said that as responsible members of the society, it behoves the executive committee and members of the mess to provide necessary information to the Police on criminals and criminal activities in their respective areas.
He enjoined them to abide by the ethics and etiquette of the mess, and promised to provide more recreational facilities at the Police mess for leisure.
The Police boss also called for suggestions and partnership in the development of the mess.
Also speaking during the ceremony, the DCP J. Habila incharge of operations cautioned against anti-social vices and unruly behaviour by members, adding that as honourable members of the mess, they were expected to sensitise the public on efforts of the Police to combat crime and always be disciplined at all times.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police State Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and other senior Police Officers who graced the occasion also spoke on how to reduce crime rate and make the state was one of the most peaceful in the country.
Similarly, the paramount ruler of Iriebe Community, HRH Eze Micheal Eleto congratulated the mess members and stressed the need to partner with other stakeholders in policing the society. He also pledged to work with the Mess and police to achieve desired results.
In his post election speech, the President, Police Officers’ Mess Committee (PMC), Chief Eben Ogan promised to set new standards for the mess as it will no longer be business as usual.
He thanked the state Police Command for reposing much confidence on the members and officers of the mess whom he described as high profile, responsible and resourceful citizens adding that they will live up to expectations.
Officers sworn-in include: Chief Eben E. Ogan (PMC), Chief Uche Madu (VPMC) Goodluck Ukwe (Secretary-General), Ojukwu Ndubuisi (Assist. Secretary), Peter Oyanna (Treasurer) and Oye Eruni (Financial Secretary).
Others are Austin A. Amugo (PRO) Engineer Nwachukwu (Wine Officer) Millisent Isimen and Princess Augusta Loveday (Welfare Officers) Ihemefula Chima (Provost), Moses Adeniji and Frank Oraeki as ex-officio members.
