Constitution Review: Rivers Takes Stand, Today
The people of Rivers State will today, at the main bowl of the Civic Centre complex, Port Harcourt participate in another round of deliberations, to consider aspects of the 1999 Constitution for review. This is coming after last Saturday’s public sessions facilitated by members of the House of Representatives in the state.
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in collaboration with the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will hold a public session on the review of the 1999 Constitution under the distinguished chairmanship of Justice Karibi Whyte JSC.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, David Iyofor says Civil Society Organisations (CSO), Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO), professional bodies, trade unions and associations, political groups, traditional leaders and royal fathers, opinion leaders, women groups, youth organisations and all other relevant stakeholders have been invited to attend the session.
The statement further stated that the event would commence at 10.00am, adding that all invited guests are expected to be seated by 9:30am.
Iyofor advised all groups and individuals who have papers to present at the forum to come early and register at the front desk of the Civil Centre main bowl from 8:30am.
