Super Falcons of Nigeria

The Super Falcons of Nigeria last night virtually assured themselves of a semi final ticket at the on-going African Women Championship (AWC) in Equatorial Guinea after overcoming their counterparts from Ethiopia 4-0.

It was a match the Nigerian lasses needed to win to maintain absolute command in Group B of the competition after edging the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 2-1 in the group’s opening match on Monday.

The Falcons duly went into the match, all guns blazing in search of victory and were rewarded with four unreplied goals with goal poacher, Perpetua Nkwocha and veteran Stella Mbachu on the score sheet.

In the group’s other game, Cameroon defeated Ivory Coast to place second on three points behind Nigeria’s six.

Now, the Falcons will need to avoid defeat against Ivory Coast in one of the final group matches on Sunday to top the group and avoid hosts, Equatorial Guinea, current Group A leaders, in the semi finals.
