Association Solicits Govt’s Support For Cooperative Partnership
The Assocation of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has sought for government support to provide mechanized farming equipment for agricultural cooperative societies.
The National President of the Union, Comrade Sunday Salako stated this in a statement issued by the Union.
Comrade Salako said the support from government to the cooperative societies would enhance the nation’s natural resources, food security and transform the farmers throughout the country.
He said the Union called on government to provide enabling environment for Nigerians to manage natural resources and enhance food security, stressing that experience around the world shows that farmers, foresters and herders have used cooperative organisations to increase food production.
The union leader said the benefit of cooperative societies to farmers could be over emphasized, stressing that cooperative societies helped farmers to gain market access, obtain better prices for their agricultural produce.
Comrade Salako said through the agricultural policies of the three tiers of government, the federal, state and local government cooperative societies could maximized their basic objectives for the farmers and food production.
The union’s boss said the value of cooperative model in agricultural cooperative was to ensure that all can enjoy the right to food as vehicle for sustainable development.
Comrade Salako said that cooperative societies had created avenue to open up access to financial services and social protection to the farmers in the country.
He said cooperative societies are capable of creating job opportunities and produce food to feed families throughout the country.
