Army To Hold Miler Race In PH
All appears to be set as the Army said it has concluded plans to hold the maiden edition of the Command, Two Brigade (General Buratai) miler race in Port Harcourt next weekend as part of measures to encourage sporting activities between members of the public and the army.
A statement signed by the Army Public Relations Officer for the Brigade, Major Michael Etete which was made available to Tidesports in Port Harcourt said that the event would hold on Saturday, November 10, 2012.
According to the statement, the Miler Race is a 12 kilometer competitive exercise aimed at encouraging youths in Port Harcourt and its environs.
The TideSports, learnt that the competition is also aimed at fishing out some budding talents of physical and mental fitness which will enable them to fulfill their roles in the society. The statement disclosed that the race will keep major streets in Port Harcourt busy, starting from Civic Centre to Liberation Stadium as terminal point.
The competition which is open for members of the public between the ages of 18 to 55 would see top 10 positions smiling home with various prizes. It was gathered that government functionaries, senior military officers, athletes are expected to grace the occasion.
The statement said that the forms are still available at the Two Brigade Physical Training Wing (PT Wing) Port Harcourt Barracks, all military formations in the state and Civic Centres.
Participants are expected to be assembled for accreditation on November 9, 2012 while the event would kick off by 7 am November 10, 2012.
