Akpor Football Talent Hunt Competition Begins Nov 17
The end of year Akpor Football Talent Hunt Competition has been scheduled to kick off on November 17, 2011 at the Our Lady of Lourdes School, formerly known as Akpor Grammer School, Ozuoba.
The competition meant for indigenes of Akpor Kingdom in the Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality is only for people under 20 years of age.
It is sponsored by JAFFY (Julius Agwu Foundation For Youth) an NGO run by popular comedian, Julius Agwu.
Last year’s edition was won by Ogbogoro community who beat Rumuolumeni in the final.
This year’s opening match will be between Rumuosi and Ozuoba.
Secretary of the Local Organising Committee, China Acheru said that the idea behind the competition is to keep Akpor youth busy during the festive season, give them a chance to strut their stuff and also expose them to big time football within and outside Rivers State.
“Last year’s edition was a success even know we had some challenges you will associate with an event happening for the first time.
“This year we expect to do it better and charge all participating communities to be of good behavior throughout its duration,” Acheru said.
Last year, two communities, Rumuosi and Rumuekini failed to register and partake but the case is different this year as all ten communities have signified their interest and registered. Also registration is free and prize money has been increased while JAFFY provides jerseys for the ten participating teams like was done last year.
