“I Spend Over N10m To Produce A Movie” -Mr. Ibu
Ace comic actor, producer and musician Mr. John Ikechukwu Okafor, alias Mr. Ibu said he spends over N10 million to produce a movie which features any of the popular Nollywood actors or actresses, employs about 500 people per week for the shooting, while more than N.8 million is spent on censorship of the movie.
Mr. Ibu who disclosed this to The Tide Entertainment in Port Harcourt recently regretted that after the expenses, pirates rob of their profits while government remained non challant about their plight.
He stated that the welfare of the entertainers was shocking as nobody cared for them. According to him, the situation in the country was that of “monkey de work, baboon de chop.”
The movie producer noted that the attitude of the pirates was the bane of the movie and music industry in the country. He called on government and other stakeholders to salvage the situation to enable them benefit from their intellectual property as was the cases in other countries.
The popular comedian observed that in Ghana and South Africa, the welfare of entertainers was the priority of Government that was why they established an entertainment village but such a place does not exist in Nigeria despite the fact that the industry pays a lot of money to government through taxes and levies.
Mr. Ibu who is also into music said he would soon launch his third album titled ‘This Girl Part 3″, having launched this Girl parts 1 and 2 previously. He said though the music industry is fast growing it sufferers, the same faith as the movie industry in terms of piracy and neglect.
