A Port Harcourt based musician and producer, Prince Rolly has rated Rivers State highly on show business, stressing that Port Harcourt had become the home of showbiz and the entertainment industry in Nigeria with only Lagos to contend with.

The American trained Audio Engineer and multi instrumentalist who spoke with The Tide Entertainment recently, said over the years people from all over the country and abroad had visited the Garden City of Nigeria to catch fun and relay in the various hospitality outlets that abound in the state.

Romantic Rolly as he is popularly known who had trained and produced seasoned musicians such as Muma Gee, Sky B, Ebiere Ekiye and a host of others said despite the fallen standard in the music industry today, Rivers State based musicians still remain the best in the music industry.

According to him there are a lot of talents in the state that needed to be tapped, but regretted that the rich ones had selfishly refused to help and promote them, rather they patronized the already made artistes based in Lagos. He stressed that those Lagos based musicians were made by people like them and if they could give a helping hand, the indigenous musicians would compete favourably with their counterparts in other parts of the country.

The seasoned musician and studio owner lambasted some musicians in the country whom he said talked nonsense in their songs. He stressed that their music lacked meaning, unlike in the yester years when music was well composed with meaningful lyrics that brought solace to the listeners.

According to the Romantic Rolly in the yester years people appreciated music because of its philosophical teachings and high level of moral considerations which helped to shape the society positively.

He regretted that today most of the musician had no message to pass to the society rather they sang nonsense with corrupt language which had corrupted the society. He noted that their kind of music had led to high level of moral decadence amongst the younger generation.

The Audio Engineer observed that today most girls go about half naked while the boys wear t heir trousers in the buttocks instead of the waste all in the name of fashion. He also blamed the media houses such as the Radio and Television Stations for highlighting such music.
