‘Insulate Politics From Oil Policy Administration’
The Managing Director, Phonic Marines
Limited, Mr. Christopher Okorie has advised the Federal Government to insulate
politics from the administration of the nation’s oil and gas policies.
The managing director said that politicisation of the anti-
corruption measures of the government would aggravate the woes in Nigeria’s oil
and gas sector.
Mr. Okorie, in an
interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt recently said that the persistent
scarcity of petrol in the country had become unbearable.
“Man-know-man strategy will only make our oil sector not to
meet the needs of the people.“And the way government is handling the issues
raised in its fuel subsidy payments will definitely not bring succour to the
industry,’’ Okorie said.
He blamed the persistent shortage of fuel on corruption,
saying that corruption seemed to have been institutionalised in the nation’s
oil sector.
Mr. Okorie said that
there was need for a total volt e-face in the way government was
treating anybody indicted for corruption.
“Selective approach to punishing persons alleged of
undermining our national interest will only worsen our conditions,’’ he said.
Okorie maintained that the problems confronting Nigeria’s oil
and gas sector was “indigenously“ created.
He said it was important that all the national refineries
were operating at full capacity to make fuel readily available for use by
Nigerians.
“Our government needs to take a bold step to fight corruption
to move Nigeria forward,’’ he said.
