U-17 W/Cup: Flamingoes Crash Out …Fall 3-5 On Penalties

Lightening struck same place twice for Nigeria’s Under-17
Women Football team at the FIFA U-17 World Cup championship after the
Flamingoes fell short again at the quarter final stage.

The Coach, Peter Dedevbo tutored girls against expectations
and promises failed to go beyond the last eight stage at the ongoing World Cup
in Azerbaijan after losing 3-5 on penalty shoot out to France yesterday.

The Flamingoes had raised so much hope for great things
following the manner they navigated the group stage matches. They played three,
won two and drew one, scoring a total of 15 goals while conceding one.

But against France yesterday in the quarter finals, the same
stage they crashed at the last World Cup, the Flamingoes failed to find their
range.

Both sides could not find the goal to decide the encounter
within regulation time and the tie was extended to penalty shootout.

Perhaps, Nigeria’s cause may have been hampered by the 75th
minute sending off of Captain Aidelomon for second bookable offence.

In the ensued penalty shootout, Naadim failed to convert
Nigeria’s second kick while France was perfect from the spot to carry the day.

It is indeed a massive disappointment for Coach Dedevbo who
had promised victory over France as a birthday gift to Nigeria.

In the first quarter final match decided earlier, Korea DPR
defeated Canada 2-1 to reach the semi-finals.
