Two Remanded For Alleged Robbery
A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court has remanded two
accused persons in prison custody for an alleged armed robbery offences.
The accused persons Sunday Okoro, 22, and Uzuoma Onude, 21
are standing trial on two count charge of stealing and armed robbery before
Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Woke.
The prosecuting Police Officer, Sergent Ediari Idafi told
the court that the accused and others now at large on September 18, 2012 at
Umuebulu 11 in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State in the Port Harcourt
Magisterial District while armed with locally made pistol did rob one Amobi Ude
of the sum of N1.2m cash.
The Police prosecutor further told the court that the
accused on the same date and place within the jurisdiction of the Port Harcourt
magisterial district, did conspire among themselves to felony to wit, Armed
Robbery adding that the accused committed an offence punishable under section
403 A and 516 of the criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.11 Laws of the Rivers State of
Nigeria.
The accused persons however, did not take any plea on the
charge brought against them Counsel to the accused persons, Barrister A.O. Ama
while applying for their bail application appealed to the presiding Chief
Magistrate to critically look at the case file to know whether his client
committed the alleged offences.
He urged the Chief Magistrate to exercise his discretions in
the matter by ensuring that the accused were not punished unjustly.
In his ruling, the presiding Chief Magistrate Emmanuel C.
Woke ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody and
adjourned the matter to 29/11/2012 for mention.
