The Rivers State chapter of the Trade Union Congress  (TUC) has tasked government at all levels on the need for the provision of adequate  security in order to protect the citizenry.

The State Chairman of the TUC, Comrade Chika Onuegbu stated this while speaking to The Tide  in Port Harcourt.

Comrade Onuegbu said the organised labour was saddened by the security challenges  and waste of human lives in the country.

He said TUC had consistently  raised alarm over the manner in which human lives are wasted across the country and the inability of the relevant security agencies to address the ugly trend.

Comrade Onuegbu said that the organised  labour was deeply worried that violence is fast becoming  a way of life in Nigeria.

The labour leader also said  the labour was similarly worried by the refusal of ordinary Nigerians to be their  brothers keepers in time of need to protect each other.

He called for genuine effort by Nigerians and the relevant security agencies to address the security challenge facing   the country, stressing that such effort will save lives.

The TUC boss tasked  government at all levels  to quickly arrest this unacceptable  culture of  violence in the country where common disagreements  are resolved by bloodshed, kidnapping and violence without  recourse to law.

The labour leader called for citizens to collaborative with the security agencies on the need for adequate security to protect lives and properties  from hoodlums and other  social miscreants.
