To ameliorate the sufferings of flood victims of the Egi
communities of Ogba, Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area (ONE) of Rivers State,
Total Exploration and Producing Nigeria Limited (TEPNG) has donated immediate
relief materials worth millions of naira to the communities.

The communities that benefitted from the immediate relief
materials include Oboburu, Ogbagi, Akabuka, Oyigbo, Ede and Ohadelu all in Egi,
ONELGA, where flood has ravaged the communities, and people’s houses submerged.

Presenting the relief materials last week at Egi Community
hall, the deputy general manager, Sustainable Development of TEPNG, Mr. Cyprian
Ojum said the gesture was in fulfillment of the promise made by the managing
director of the Total Upstreams Companies, Mr. Guy Maurice, when he visited the
community recently to help ameliorate the sufferings of the people at this time
of flooding.

Ojum explained that the materials donated were immediate
relief for the people to at least have respite while the company finds other
ways to fight the flooding which has caused havoc not only in Nigeria, but
around the world.

He noted that the company has targeted the materials for
1,000 families in Egi Clan and the company would do more depending on the
situation.

Items distributed were bags of rice, cartons of tomatoes,
detol, soap, groundnut oil, bags of salt and speed boats to help relocate
victims from their homes to safer places.

He noted that the company will not stop at this, stressing
that it would continue to lend helping hands as the situation continues in the
area.

His words: “Some speed boats have been mobilsied to assist
those trapped by the various communities to help evacuate their properties and
wards to safer places.

“Military vehicles have also been mobilised to assist the
communities in the area of security. We appreciate and value our partnership
with Egi people so much hence the support.”

Responding, the President General of Egi People’s Assembly,
Chief Oris Onyiri commended the efforts of the company for their gesture, noting
that the company has proved that it is committed to its corporate social
responsibility.

Onyiri assured the company that the donated items would be
judiciously distributed among the families, stressing that the partnership
between the company and the Egi people would be sustained.
