SMEDAN Harps On Agriculture
The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of
Nigeria (SMEDAN) said on Thursday that agriculture could revive Nigeria’s
economy, if farmers were given the necessary support.
The Director-General of the agency, Alhaji Muhammed Umar,
was quoted in a statement as saying this when he received a delegation from the
Society of Youths in Agriculture (SYA) in his office in Abuja.
“Agriculture could once again become the mainstay of the
Nigerian economy provided it was taken as a profession with profitable returns
to farmers,” Umar said in the statement issued by Mr Levi Ayinkwa, the Head,
Corporate Unit of SMEDAN, said:‘
He expressed optimism that the full implementation of the
present administration’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda would lead to
unprecedented revival of the sector.
Earlier, Mr Bakare Oladimeji, the society’s President, had
said that the purpose of the visit was to seek SMEDAN’s collaboration in the
areas of technical and entrepreneurship training for its members.
