Senate Promises Adequate Funding For Police Project
The Senate Committee on Police on Tuesday assured the Police
Service Commission (PSC) that money would be appropriated in the 2013 budget to
complete its corporate headquarters.
The chairman of the committee, Sen. Paulinus Igwe, gave the
assurance when he led other members of the committee on inspection visit to the
ongoing five-storey building located at Jabi District in Abuja.
Igwe said the inspection was done to enable the committee
ascertain the level of job so far done so as to appropriate money in the 2013
budget for the completion of the project.
“We are doing this in readiness for the 2013 budget which we
will soon receive and because of that we have to visit here today and those of
us who are here are satisfied with the level of work so far done.
“If we are appropriating money to the commission now, we
will be happy to do that to enable them to complete the project,’’ he said.
Igwe commended the PSC Chairman, Mr Parry Osayande, for the
job so far done with the more than N1 billion that had been released to the
commission.
Osayande said that if money was released, the project would
be completed on scheduled.
Earlier, Mr Vasos Saouri, the project manager of the company
handling the project, Vita Construction Ltd, had assured that the project,
which had reached 60 per cent completion, would be completed in February 2013.
Our correspondent learnt that the project would cost more
than N3 billion.
