RVHA Clears Ahiazu, Others For RSIEC Jobs
Rivers state House of Assembly yesterday confirmed the
appointment of Prof Augustine Ahiazu as chairman and six others as
commissioners in the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
The screening of the nominees followed the request of the
state Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi, seeking the approval of the House to
have the persons as chairman and commissioners of RSIEC.
They are Prof Augustine Ahiazu, chairman, Dr Eddy Adiele, Mr
Kennedy Saro Pueba, Dr Viniola Fubara, Mrs Ngozi Ajayi, Dr Silvaline Nwachukwu
and Ms Ibiso Dakoru as commissioners.
The appointment of the RSIEC members was sequel to the
expiration of Prof Nimi Briggs-led RSIEC that conducted the last local
government council elections in the state.
It would be recalled that the 1999 constitution, as amended,
empowers the state government to appoint members of the state electoral body for the conduct of council
polls.
