RSG Opens Training For Accounts Officers, Today
As part of deliberate effort by the Rivers State Government to standardise its accounting system, the office of the Accountant General holds a training programme on public sector accounting for senior accounts officers in the state public service this week.
The training programme, which will be declared open by the Commissioner for Finance, Dr Chamberlain Peterside, today would have the new Head of Service, Barrister Samuel LongJohn as special guest.
A statement from the Ministry of Finance indicates that participants will be exposed to the concept of public sector accounting, effective payroll, salary and wages administration on public establishments as well as internal audit and techniques.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, yesterday, the Account General of the State, Sir Ngozi Abu, emphasised that participants would be taught details on the nature, concept and purpose of government accounting, current financial regulators and responsibilities of public officers.
According to the Rivers State Accountant-General, the training will focus on the role of Information and communication Technology (ICT) in public sector accounting, the essence of reporting accurately and interpreting government accounts among others.
He appealed to all accounts officers in state civil service to consider the workshop as most important to enable government realise its objectives.
