Reps Embark On Constituency Hearings Soon
The House of Representatives said it would soon embark on Constituency hearings tagged: “the Peoples’ Public Sessions’’ in the 360 Federal Constituencies of the country.
The Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, made the announcement after a closed-door session with the members.
Tambuwal said that the public sessions would hold simultaneously on Saturday November 10 in the 360 Constituencies.
He said that the flag-off ceremony would take place November 8 at the National Assembly premises in Abuja.
Rep. Zakari Mohammed, Public Affairs, the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and however, disclosed that there were concerns on how to manage the hearings in areas currently ravaged by floods.
He, however, assured that the leadership of the House was still working out modalities for the affected areas.
Commenting on the debate on the 2013 Budget, he said that it was to give members the opportunity to make the needed input before referring same to the relevant committees. He said that the perceived impasse over oil price benchmark was “unnecessary bickering’’.
Meanwhile, the 2012 Budget of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has scaled through second reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill was to authorise the issuance of over N250.9 billion from the Statutory Revenue Fund of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The bill was subsequently referred to the House Committee on the Niger Delta for further legislative exercise.
