PH Holds RIVINFO Film Contest, Saturday

All is now set for the Grand Award Nite of RIVINFO Film
Competition on Saturday in Port Harcourt.

The competition, which takes place at the Silverbird
Galleria, former Obi Wali Integrated Cultural Centre, Abonnema Wharf Road, will
be chaired by Captain Elechi Amadi (rtd) while the Executive Governor of Rivers
State, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, will be Special Guest of Honour.

Briefing newsmen on modalities towards the successful
hosting of the competition, the state Commissioner of Information and
Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari said that the competition is part of the
efforts of Governor Chibuike Amaechi to encourage a creative economy in the
state.

Mrs Semenitari, who described Rivers State as the hub of the
creative industry in the country, particularly said that the Theatre Art
Department of the University of Port Harcourt has produced top Nigerian
Artistes who are making waves in the Nigerian film industry.

She said that the competition, which has as its theme: “The
Dangers of Illegal Oil Bunkering,” will attract N2 million and N500,000,
respectively for the best and first runners-up for each film category as prizes
while a star prize of N3 million is for the overall best entry.

The commissioner also said that the best entries from each
of the categories will be exhibited at the Zuma International Film Festival in
Abuja.

She expressed concern over the attitude of some
multinational companies operating in the state over their refusal to partner
with the government in the organisation of the event in the state.

Mrs Semenitari also thanked the judges for their commitment,
which she said, was encouragement to the contestants, and also commended the
contestants for sending in their entries.
