The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Rivers State Chapter has appealed to the Rivers State House of Assembly to make its directorate  a department in  the Primary _Healthcare Management Board.

The Association’s Chairperson in Rivers State, Mrs Agatha Choko who made the appeal in Port Harcourt recently, noted that the Nurses currently have no department in the board and creating a department for the nurses would help government to achieve her objectives in the health sector.

Mrs Choko said the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives and Forum for Local Government Nurses and Midwives are working hard to see that the primary healthcare centres are functional and effective.

According to her, “we usually advise our members to be regular and punctual to their duties so that government aims by building the primary health centres and the establishment of the primary healthcare board is achieved”.

She noted that nurses in Rivers State are beginning to find their feet, stating that the marginalization is minimized after the association staged a protest last May in the state.

The Chairperson noted that Nursing profession world  wide is noble and valued and as such should be given its rightful place in the Primary Healthcare  Board.

She said the Nurses are cooperating with the board to enable the state government achieve her aims in the health sector.
