NIPOST Introduces e-Wallet Services
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has launched e-wallet in a bid to situate the post in the internet related service.
The Postmaster General of the federal Mallam Ibrahim Mori Baba, who performed the launching ceremony in Abuja recently, said the exercise was long overdue in the agency’s quest to take postal services to the highest level.
Baba, said part of the delay was to ensure that its introduction to the public will be hitchfree.
He noted that the provider needed to get its acts right before launching out any service or product.
He also urged Area Postal Managers across territories to embrace the service and launch it out fast.
E-Wallet solution is a Genesis EMV card that has a wide range of services and enables payment across the post counters nationwide.
The service (e-wallet) was launched in Port Harcourt recently by the Senior Assistant Post Master General (counter operations) Kulawe Irmiya D.
Irmiya, said the NIPOST decided to take the e-wallet service to Rivers State in a bid to boost its economy.
He explained that the service introduction was in line with the Federal Government’s plans to fully implement a cashless society.
He disagreed that the introduction of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will sideline NIPOST services, saying that NIPOST remains the best in mail handling.
The NIPOST boss, however, called on the relevant authorities to grant the agency the opportunities of printing some of its official documents as it is obtainable in other countries.
