NAOC Donates Relief Materials To RSG
As part of palliative measures to alleviate the sufferings of the flood disaster victims in the state, the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and its joint venture partners, have donated relief materials to the Rivers State Government Flood Rehabilitation Committee.
The items donated include, 600 bags of rice, 1000 blankets, 500 cartons of indomie noodles, mosquito nets, pillows, mattresses, tomatoes, bottle water and drugs.
Speaking, while handing over the materials to the committee at the state Deputy Governors office, Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday, NAOC Managing Director, Ciro Antonio Pagano, represented by the General Manager, District, Giovanni Salvini, sympathized with the state government and the host communities in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ahoada East, Ahoada West and Abua/Odual Local Government Areas of Rivers State on the current flood disaster affecting the state.
He said that the company share in the pains and sufferings of the people of the state, also understand the economic burden the situation has placed on government resources, which prompted the need for NAOC to commiserate with the government and people of the state by making the token donation as part of its contribution towards the well being of the flood victims.
In his response, the chairman, Rivers state government Flood Rehabilitation committee for victims of flood disaster, Engr Tele Ikuru, who is also the Deputy governor of Rivers State commended Agip for its gesture and a show of social and corporate responsibility to the state.
Engr Ikuru who was represented by the commissioner for Special Duties, Hon Emeka Wogu, disclosed that the state has established 25 refugee camps, each accommodating about 2,500 persons, as over 100,000 persons lost their homes in disaster, he added.
He said, Agip is the first company that has channeled their donation in a proper well co-ordinated manner and called on other corporate bodies to emulate, as government can not manage the disaster alone, he noted while assuring that the relief materials would be equitably distributed to the flood disaster victims in the state.
