The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria MHWUN has decried the poor health service delivery in the country.

The National President of the union, Comrade Ayuba Wabba stated this at the 37th  session of the National Executive Council meeting of the union held recently in Abuja.

Comrade Wabba lamented  a situation where three years  to the global date for the attainment of Millennium Development Goals, Nigeria was still recording deaths  resulting from communicable diseases and lack of effective health service delivery.

The MHWUN president  regretted that the  deteriorating  state of the country’s healthcare system had encouraged many Nigerians to search for medicare in foreign countries.

Comrade Wabba stated that on June 25 2012 at the inaugural Private Health Sector Summit held in Lagos, the Minister of State for  Health, Dr. Alli Pate lamented   that Nigeria was losing N81 billion yearly to other countries on medical  tourism.

He attributed the development to the penchant of many Nigerians  for  seeking solution to their healthcare  needs abroad.

The labour leader called on the federal and state  governments to reverse the Frend through holistic  restructuring of the healthcare administration and placing of premium  on preventative healthcare in the country.

Comrade  Wabba reiterated the need for improved  relationship between  the union and the Federal  Ministry of  Health for  effective delivery of health services to the people and for industrial harmony.

The National Executive  Council meeting of the union was attended by the 36 states executives of the union.
