Labour Party Harps On Good Leadership
The FCT Labour Party Chairman, Mr Adejobi Peter, has advised those in leadership positions to redouble efforts in providing quality leadership for the people.
Mr Peter told newsmen in Abuja that ensuring quality leadership would entail Nigerians electing people of impeccable character and integrity into public offices.
“The political class should look at the credibility of candidates, who will feature in elections and should ensure that they are men of proven integrity,” he said.
He stressed the need for the leadership to provide more employment opportunities, particularly for the youth, to stem corruption.
“We cannot say that we are fighting corruption without tackling the high rate of unemployment in the country.
“Government has to carter for the people by using the resources Nigeria is blessed with to establish cottage industries for the citizens to get employed,” he said.
Peter also urged the Federal Government to provide the enabling environment for all Nigerians to be self-reliant “and not just for a certain class of people”.
“Nigerians are enterprising people, if given the enabling environment they will be able to contribute their quota to national development.
“Government should also look for a kind of wage system that will fit the Nigerian workers so that they can derive value for offering service for the development of the country,” he said.
Peter also called on government to make the transport sector more effective by opening the rural areas to enable farmers to convey their produce to the urban centres.
That, he said, would bring down the cost of production and reduce prices of food stuffs among other advantages.
