The Rivers State Head of Service (HOS), Barrister Samuel LongJohn has directed staff of the Computer Department in his Office to put into effective use the monthly staff nominal rolls submitted to the office to ensure that a complete dassier of staff in the State Public Service is made available at all times.

Barr. LongJohn gave the directive on Monday while undertaking an unscheduled familiarization visit to staff and offices of various departments of his Office.

He decried the situation where names of retired staff, those on transfer to other MDAs, as well as those who have died, are not regularly reflected on the nominal rolls and called for a more comprehensive update where details of all movements of staff are indicated so as to maximally utilize the monthly submission of nominal rolls by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

At the Accounts Department the Head of Service requested for an update of the monthly repayment schedule of beneficiaries of the Car/Housing Revolving Loan Scheme as well as other deductions made from staff salaries in view of incessant complaints by both serving and retired staff of excessive deductions and improper documentation of monies deducted.

Barr. LongJohn, who expressed satisfaction with the staff for reporting to work on time despite the heavy downpour, directed that non-functional electrical fittings, bulbs and air-conditioners be replaced or serviced so as to provide conducive working environment for staff.

He also directed that tags be fixed on doors of the various offices for easy identification of occupants as well as the replacement of wooden file cabinets with steel cabinets which he said are more durable.

The Head of Service was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Service welfare, Mr Lambert Ekwueme, the Director, Special Services, Mrs. Josephine Chukuigwe and other Heads of Departments.
