HOS Charges Perm Secs On Service Delivery
The Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Barrister Samuel LongJohn has emphasised the need for permanent secretaries to show promptness in service delivery.
Barri. LongJohn stated this in Port Harcourt at his inaugural meeting with Permanent Secretaries in the state public service.
The Head of Service, who frowned at undue delay in files treatment stressed that for the State government to achieve its set goals, there is need for prompt service delivery.
He citied instances where retirees documents were being processed nine months after their retirement from the service and called for a change of attitude.
He stressed the urgent need to modify the system to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
Barr. LongJohn, who reminded them of the directive by the State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to all civil servants to be ICT compliant in line with modern global trend disclosed that he would interface with the Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT on the re-introduction of refresher course on computer literacy for all civil servants, beginning with the Permanent Secretaries.
He said minutes of meetings and other related matters would be communicated to them through emails so as to entrench the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the day-to-day affairs of the workforce.
The Head of Service stressed the need to hold regular meetings with the Permanent Secretaries to enable him be acquainted with the challenges faced by the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), adding that no individual is a repository of knowledge.
He used the forum to urge all civil servants to be punctual and regular to work and render dedicated and committed service so as to justify their pay, while soliciting for their cooperation.
Responding on behalf of the Permanent Secretaries, Ms Kadilo Brown congratulated the Head of Service on his appointment and assured him of their unwavering support to enable him achieve his vision for the civil service.
She called on the Head of Service to take proactive measures to address certain challenges faced by the Permanent Secretaries in the effective discharge of their duties.
