Captain of Heartland FC of Owerri, Chinedu Efugh, has assured fans of a much-improved side in the 2012/2013 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season.

Efugh told newsmen in Lagos that the team would strive to dominate the NPL through a new and purposeful approach to the game.

“Well, that’s what we are working towards; we have started the preparations and we want to put everything in order, so that we can achieve what we were unable to achieve last season.

“We will ensure that we do all we have to do so that we don’t let down our fans and management again this season,’’ he said.

Efugh added that the team would guard against the pitfalls that undermined its campaign, last season.

“We have learnt from our mistakes; what happened last season will certainly not repeat itself and we are set to improve our profile in the 2012/2013 season,’’ he said.

Efugh, however, urged the organisers of the NPL to ensure that the league was effectively run, especially in the area of officiating.

“Though there were marked improvements in officiating in the 2011/2012 season, the NPL management must certainly do more to sustain the image of the league.

“The NPL management controls the game and with improvements in officiating, the league will certainly continue to get better,’’ the Heartland captain said.

Heartland FC is the current Federation Cup champion, having won the competition consecutively in its last two editions.
