Gov’s Cup: Igwe Commends SPDC Over Partnership
The Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Fred Igwe has commended the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) for partnering with the state government as co-sponsor of the 2012 Edition of the Governor’s Cup Competition.
Hon. Igwe who stated this at the weekend during the final of the competition played at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt, urged SPDC to sustain the gesture, saying that the state government was ready to partner with the company in any way.
He commended winners of the competition, Okrika Local Government Area, and participants, noting that in any competition there must be a winner and a loser.
He however, noted that all the teams did well.
Meanwhile, the final match which was played between Okrika and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas ended 2-1 in favour of Okrika, while Obio/Akpor won the third place via a walk-over of Ahoada West Local Government Area.
Earlier, Managing Director of SPDC, Mutiu Sunmonu, who was represented by General Manager, Human Resources of the company, Charles Gbandi described sports as veritable tool for national development and promised its continued partnership with the state government in sports promotion.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of trophies and prize monies to winners in the competition.
