FRSC Lauds Special Marshals’ Voluntory Service
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),
Chief Osita Chidoka, has commended special marshals nationwide for their
voluntary services toward saving lives on the Nigerian roads.
Chidoka gave the commendation in Katsina recently at the
2012 Special Marshals’ Annual Workshop organised by the Katsina State Sector
Command of the corps.
The corps marshal, who was represented by Mr Charles
Theopolus , FRSC Zonal Commading Officer in-charge of Kaduna, Katsina, Kano and
Jigawa states, underscored the role of the special marshals in saving the lives
of the people on the roads.
“The special marshals complement the efforts of the regular
marshals in saving lives, there is also need for all stakeholders to assist in
that direction in order to reduce road accidents to the barest minimum in the
country.”
Chidoka said that in appreciation of the special marshals’
contribution, the corps had provided insurance cover for them under the Group
Personal Accident (GPA) policy.
The insurance policy, he said, was designed to motivate them
in their voluntary duties of saving lives on the Nigerian roads.
The corps marshal also disclosed that all serving staff of
the corps whether or not confirmed, were covered by insurance, including Group
Life Assurance (GLA).
Chidoka urged motorists to support the marshals by
cooperating with them toward saving lives as well as to always abide by the
traffic rules and regulations.
Earlier, the state Sector Commander, Alhaji Habu Dauda, said
the workshop was part of the command’s advocacy for improved road safety
activities in the state.
Two papers entitled ‘`Attracting a political will for road
safety campaign- the role of special marshals’’ and `‘Using social media to
improve special marshals’ activities’’ were presented at the occasion.
